About Relate NI

Relate NI is a charity with a mission to make expert information and support for healthy relationships available for everyone.

Can Relate NI help me?

It doesn't matter if you’re on your own, married, living together, single, separated, younger, older, parenting apart, parenting alone, gay, bisexual, straight or transgender - we’re here to support you!

Relate NI is a charity which has been providing relationship support and counselling services across Northern Ireland for over 70 years. We provide counselling services at locations across NI including from Belfast to Derry, Newry to Coleraine and Ballymena to Omagh – we can also offer our professional counselling services through webcam and telephone.

Many people turn to relationship counselling when things have already gotten really bad, and while we can provide support at this stage, we are also here whenever you need and we know that regular relationship maintenance can help prevent our relationships from falling into crisis.

What is Relationship Counselling & How Does it Work?

Our counsellors provide a caring, supportive and non-judgmental environment to help you find a way through any difficulties you may be facing in your relationship. Each of our expert counsellors are trained to Level 4 Diploma and above and are accredited through either the BACP or the IACP or equivalent bodies. Working together with you, they will first help you to identify the issues or problems you are facing in your relationship(s) through a 1-hour initial assessment.

If you decide counselling is the way forward for you, you will embark on a series of short-term counselling sessions - anything between six and twelve sessions is normal, but it will depend on the issues you are experiencing. To offer flexibility, we offer services throughout the week, from the mornings until as late as 9pm, with the final appointment being at 8pm, and your own flexibility will be a factor in how quickly you will be seen. 76% of people last year rated the speed in which they received an appointment as either ‘good’ or ‘excellent.’

The cost of the initial assessment and each subsequent 50 minute session is £50 per session. There are some funded options available dependant on your personal circumstances which our business operations team can explore with you.

For some, counselling is the start of a longer process of discovery while for others, a few sessions of counselling may be all they need to move through a rough patch. You will be able to discuss your expectations with your counsellor but you are free to discontinue our services whenever you see fit.

To find out more about each of our individual services click below, or contact us today on 02890323454 and speak to a member of our team about how relationship counselling may be able to support you. 88% of people last year told us they wish they had attended Relate NI sooner.
